SMLS welcomed like-minded experiential educators from fellow CIS schools to an innovative new conference, led by Judy Ross, SMLS Director of Global Studies, who presented a snapshot of the impact of our experiential learning program through the eyes of some of our students.  The group shared effective practices and challenges they face, identified opportunities, networked, and established a foundation for future collaboration.  The group then split into three break-out sessions:  Judy and Nicki Newhouse, our Director of Student Life, led a workshop on 'Leadership Through Exchange", asking the question "What is the greatest strength of your exchange program?".  Simon Samsworth, Coordinator of Junior School Global Studies, and Erinn O'Shea, Coordinator of Cooperative Education, led the session on "Recognition of Student Achievement" and focused on SMLS' Millie 100, Junior Duke and International Award ORB.  Their question focused on "In what ways do you recognize and record student achievement outside the classroom?"  And Dona Andela from the Global Studies department led 'Making Service Learning Meaningful" with the question "What makes service meaningful?"

It was a very productive day for everyone, by all accounts, and we are happy to have had this wonderful opportunity to learn and share.
