Before You Can Lead a Community, You Need to Belong to One

Katie D. and Isabella C., SS12
Over the next few weeks, SMLS is opening its doors and welcoming families in for our annual Fall Open Houses. This is a great opportunity for individuals who want an inside look into what an SMLS experience is all about. Open House attendees can see firsthand what it’s like to do the early years of a girl’s education at SMLS and since we also have entry years in Grade 6 and Grade 9, they get to see what growth opportunities exist in the older grades too.

As Admissions and Marketing Prefects, we get to lead the Open House activities for SMLS. We have been recruiting student ambassadors to help conduct tours, we will be attending school Expos and representing SMLS, and we get the opportunity to celebrate all of the things we like best about SMLS with others.

For me, Isabella, I joined SMLS in grade 9 and after being at other schools, I realized that being at an all-girls school focuses far more on empowering young women and bringing out their maximum potential compared to co-ed schools. SMLS has been more than a place for learning to me. It has motivated me into who I am now, shaped my future and is a starting place for my dreams.

For me, Katie, I have been at SMLS since kindergarten. What I’ve loved about having this career-long journey at SMLS is that I have made connections with students across the grades, and have built strong relationships with many of my teachers. This is serving me well now as I prepare for university. My teachers know me well and will be able to write strong letters of recommendation for me on my university applications, and I already know other Millies at many of the universities where I’ll be applying.

If you know someone who may be interested in SMLS, please invite them to come meet us at one of our upcoming Open Houses. We would love to show them around!
