Offering a Personalized Education

With a mission to engage each student in a personalized, real-world learning experience in an environment where students explore their own unique pathways within a nurturing community, an SMLS education is all about personalization.

Personalization is something we do exceptionally well thanks to our unique understanding of how girls learn, our ability to provide students with an array of opportunities and experiences, the personal connection students have with our faculty and staff, and our commitment to putting student voice at the centre of their learning.

At SMLS, students enjoy a personalized connection with their teachers, and with a dedicated Circle of Care Team (made up of social workers, a school nurse, guidance counsellors and dedicated learning strategists) students are supported emotionally, socially and academically. In the Senior School specifically students have dedicated time with Advisors and access to two university guidance counsellors who support the students with their post-secondary admissions and scholarship applications.

Overall, our curriculum is enriched and personalized and delivered in a way that fosters confidence in our Millies as they work toward a deep understanding of themselves and the world around them. Since most students start and end their pre-university education at SMLS, the school creates an interconnected path through each grade. In the Junior school, SMLS draws on the Reggio Emilia approach, which sets the stage for personalized learning in the following years. In the Middle School years, students begin to test their skills and increase their confidence through a variety of academic challenges, travel opportunities, and expansive co-curricular offerings. The Senior School offers deeper learning, where teachers encourage students to pursue their interests and areas of strength, and tackle new concepts more independently.

In essence, the educational model at SMLS is all about developing lifelong learners; supporting the curiosity and confidence that will see empowered young women challenging and transforming the world.
