Celebrating the Power of Community: The Latest Issue of Jubilate
We are delighted to share the latest issue of Jubilate, our school magazine dedicated to celebrating the extraordinary impact of the SMLS community. At St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School, learning and connection go hand in hand, creating a network of friendship, mentorship, and empowerment that spans all grades and continues long after graduation.
This issue highlights the many ways our alumnae remain connected to SMLS and each other. Whether it’s Evanka Osmak ‘98, a champion for women in sports and a successful broadcaster for Sportsnet, who found support from her SMLS community when launching her new book, or Fyonna Vanderwerf ‘87, who welcomes and is supported by Millies at her fitness gym in Muskoka, our alumnae demonstrate the lasting strength of the bonds formed at SMLS.
We also feature stories like Averill Ambrose ‘65 and Debbie Scott ‘65, two alumnae of Miss Lightbourn’s School, who led a school reunion to commemorate a milestone year. And recent graduate Savannah Staskiel ‘20, who turned to SMLS for guidance during her final year of her MBA. These stories reflect the enduring connection and support that define the SMLS experience.
In addition, this issue of Jubilate celebrates our 2023-2024 Community Award recipients, who exemplify the values of service, leadership, and impact:
Nadine Farran-Gatti Distinguished Service Award: Jackie Maunula, recognized for her exceptional volunteer leadership since 2016, enriching school programs and events.
Outstanding Alumna Award: Miranda Plant Byers ‘03, an award-winning actress and producer, honored for her advocacy for women’s empowerment and diversity in the arts.
Life Governor Award: Daniela Hampton-Davies ICD.D MBA ‘89, celebrated for her lifelong contributions to SMLS and the broader community through her leadership and dedication.
This edition captures the spirit of SMLS—a dynamic, supportive community that inspires its members to grow, thrive, and positively impact the world. We hope you enjoy reading Jubilate and feel the same sense of pride in our community as we do.
